Activities:
During the 2-day of local activities on 30.07.2023 and 31.07.2023, Cappadocia Education and Research Association (CERA) hosted a local event within the ToyZone project, an event attended by parents of children with disabilities and specialists in the field of psychology. The local activity was an inclusive and engaging event designed for 15 parents who shared a common interest in having children with disabilities and taking care of them.
The aim of this event is to popularize the project at the level of the local community and to contribute to the social integration of children with disabilities. Our purpose was to pilot the Manual Training Modules and create a more inclusive and supportive community for children with disabilities.
The Topics of the Local Activity:
Mrs. Zeynep Duray DİZDAR, a Turkish special education teacher who has valuable experience working with special needs children in schools and private classes on various ways of communication and development, started the session by giving a very simple introduction about the project and the general aim of it.
During this event, participants were introduced:
- Introduction to the Importance of Toys in the Development and Rehabilitation of Children
with Disabilities - The Disability Types of Children;
- Appropriate Educational Materials for Disabled Children;
- Methods for Selecting Appropriate Educational Materials;
- Techniques for Selecting Appropriate Educational Materials;
- Parenting Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices.
This all was discussed throughout the two days of local activity that was held in Nevşehir, Türkiye led by Cappadocia Education and Research Association (CERA) in the framework of the project.
Conclusions:
15 parents of children with disabilities, who live in Nevşehir, participated in the activity. The duration of the activity was 5 hours each day, so that the parents had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with theoretical and practical aspects of what represents the most suitable therapies according to the type of deficiency that their child presents.
Also, by means of feedback questionnaires, we collected the opinions/impressions of the beneficiaries as a reference for the next planned meeting. We aimed to share the work done and encourage people to follow our path of work until we realize the E-Learning platform so they can engage more and know a lot about the topic in a better and sustainable way.
This local activity contributed to bridge a gap between professionals and parents by presenting a unique project that focuses on inclusive education and support for special children.
